HESS, Elizabeth (Tizzano) Passed away on March 6, 2025 in Marietta, GA Beloved wife of the late Donald A. Loving grandmother of Abby (Stephanie), Rebecca “Becky” (Austin) Steele, Margaret Hess, Patrick {Frater Vincent}, Mary Hess, Christopher “CJ” Owens, and Gracie Owens, and great grandmother of Sabina Steele Daughter of the late Liberato and Mary (Milideo) Tizzano Sister of the late Carmela Peacock and Frank Tizzano Friends and family may call Thursday March 13th from 4-7:00pm at the JAMES W. CANNAN FUNERAL HOME, INC., 3155 Orchard Park Road in Orchard Park, NY (716) 675-9027. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:15AM at Queen of Heaven Church in West Seneca, NY (please assemble at Church). The burial will follow the Mass at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Elizabeth (nee Sabina) was born and raised in Buffalo, NY. She worked full-time and put herself through school at Buffalo State college. She majored in education and became an elementary school teacher working in the Buffalo school district where she taught for 33 years. She married Donald Hess in 1966 and they moved to West Seneca where they raised their two children, Mike and Donna-Jean. Upon retiring from teaching, she and Don moved to Crystal River, FL, where she resided for almost 30 years. Don passed away in 1991 after 25 years of marriage. She later met and married Frank Corriea in September 2000, and they were together for 15 years before he passed away in 2015. She often said she was so very lucky to have met two such wonderful men. Liz moved to Marietta, GA in 2017 to be close to Donna-Jean and her children, CJ and Gracie, and spent the remainder of her life there. Liz loved to travel and saw much of the world traveling with family or friends. She held a koala bear in Australia, saw glaciers in Alaska, and had her purse stolen in St. Petersburg, Russia. She and Frank loved taking cross country car trips and traveled many long routes from Florida, to Massachusetts, Minnesota, and even California. She also loved to spend time with her family, be it taking her nephews on cross country adventures when she was in her 20s, traveling with her own children, or later doting attention on her great nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. She loved having her grandkids visit and would at times get so distracted playing with them she would completely forget about making dinner, then announcing "oh well, let go out then". Liz loved to tell stores and even in her last days entertained her grandchildren with funny stories about them from 25 years ago with explicit detail. During her time in Marietta she treasured trips to the local Anchor bar with Donna-Jean and the kids where she could cheer on her beloved Buffalo Bills with the other local fans. She would share stories of attending games at the Rockpile and later in the snow at Rich Stadium from the ‘60s until the late ‘80s. Liz also loved to play cards, be it with friends or teaching her grandchildren how to play. After moving to Georgia, she continued the tradition playing in regular, weekly games with her friends and neighbors. No matter where she lived Liz always took great pride in being from Buffalo, be it for the arts, the parks, sponge candy or her beloved Bills. She was equally proud in her Italian heritage, and loved to share stories of her early years, growing up in South Buffalo. Liz treasured her return trips where she could visit with family and friends. Liz was fiercely independent and lived life on her terms. She was kind, loving, generous, and always up for an adventure or a celebration. She has left a legacy in her family and friends, who will cherish her memory always.
