Obituary of Theresa Grimm
Please share a memory of Theresa to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Grimm, Theresa (Kowacs), passed away on March 9, 2025, beloved wife of the late Karl Grimm, dear mother of Monika (late Eberhard) Braun, Peter (Eileen) Grimm and Karen (Patrick) Byrns, also survived by grandchildren, Thomas, Lisa, Kyle (Erin), Shawn (Hannah), Ryan (Christina), Leah (Kevin) and great grandchildren Everette, Rory, Noah, Adriana, Grant, Olivia and Peter and nieces and nephews living in Germany.
Theresa began her life in Vertesacsa, a tiny town in Hungary that was mostly made up of German Settlers. Her parents and six siblings raised just what they needed to sustain themselves. Cows and chickens for dairy and meat, a huge garden of vegetables and a good variety of fruit trees, just as everyone else did! They lived a simple life. Plenty of hard work, but time to enjoy the fruits of their labors. After WWll, when Theresa was in her late teens, the family was displaced and put on a train to Schatthausen, a small town in Germany. They were temporarily housed by a local family until they could become self-sufficient. It didn’t take long before this determined family was able to be on their own. Theresa and her sister took a job in Housekeeping at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Heidelberg. There, they were boarded and only came home on the weekends. Shortly thereafter Theresa met Karl, her future husband, at a local festivity. After marriage and a baby, an uncle, also named Karl, who had already immigrated to the US, offered to sponsor them to come to America. Theresa’s husband Karl’s family business was a Metzgerei, or as we would know it, a Butcher Shop/Sausage Market. There were plenty of those in the Buffalo area, so Karl had a prearranged job already waiting for him. A strong supporter of her husband, Theresa packed up her most essential kitchen items and off they went to sail across the ocean! Uncle Karl had already arranged for an upper apartment on Clinton St. in West Seneca. In just a few years they were able to purchase their own home, also in West Seneca. It is in that home that Theresa and Karl raised their three children and where Theresa lived until her last days.
Theresa was a long time member of the Buffalo Schwaben Chor where she met many of her life long friends.
Friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial to be held on Friday, March 14th at 9:00am at Queen of Heaven Church. Please assemble at church. No prior visitation. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Hospice of Buffalo.
