I had no idea until this morning that Msgr. James Campbell had passed away. He was our chaplain at Mount Mercy Convent (now ‘Mercy Center’) back in the early 1980s. At first I was afraid of him. He seemed rather stern as if he didn’t ‘suffer fools gladly.’ But as I got to know him better, I found that the man behind that tough exterior was really friendly, funny, and compassionate. He used to hear our confessions, and I found him to be a wonderful confessor. May God have mercy on his soul. I will ask Fr. Patrick Sobyczyk to say the 12 o’clock mass on Friday, August 15, at Mercy Hospital, for the repose of his soul.
