TREFZER, Merrill E., February 4, 1939 – October 7,2025, Merrill, 86, died peacefully in his Orchard Park home Tuesday, October 7, 2025. Dear husband of the late Patricia (Donohue Farrell) Trefzer. Stepfather of Brigid Farrell (Peter) Dunn and the late Sarah Donohue (Brian) Coyle, step grandfather of James and Patrick Coyle and Katharine and Elisabeth Dunn. He was the son of the late Esther (Scheibel) and Ernest Trefzer. Merrill‘s dear cousins include the late Audrey and Kenneth Kolbe, as well as Edward Huenniger, Ellen Binder, Janet Spencer, Barbara Lipiew, and Robert Skinner. Merrill received an undergraduate degree, in education from the University of Buffalo and a Master’s degree from Canisius College (University). He taught history and global studies for 40 years at the Orchard Park High School. He was very interested in political issues and all levels of government, local to global. Merrill was an avid stamp collector, since he was 12 years old. Independent Nursing care’s competent, kind and professional, home care nurses and aids took excellent care of Merrill. Friends and family may call on Saturday, October 11, 2025 from 10:30 am - 12:00 pm followed by a prayer service at 12:00 Noon at the James W Cannan Funeral Home, Inc., 3155 Orchard Park Road, in Orchard Park (716) 675-9027.
