Obituary of Evelyn M. Vanderlip

Evelyn Marie Vanderlip, 75, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2026 surrounded by her four children. Born September 12, 1950, she was the beloved daughter of the late William Cates Childers and Fredda Lee Childers of Dallas, Texas. Evelyn was the loving mother of Tammi (John Samuel) Cogswell, Thomas Vanderlip, Terrence (Michele) Vanderlip, and Tracy Vanderlip. She was the proud grandmother of Thomas, Kaylin, and Sean Vanderlip. She was the oldest sister of Charlotte Childers, Celia Childers, Susan (David) Mackey, and William (Joanna) Childers. She was Aunt Ev to many nieces and nephews who she loved and adored. Her love for her family was the center of her world. She had a natural gift for caring for others and was known for her gentle kindness, warm heart, and ability to make people feel supported and loved. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures — long coffee conversations, and unhurried meals shared with family and friends. She understood something many of us forget: that the best moments in life are the unhurried ones spent together. Evelyn could always laugh at herself and treasured the laughs and playful teasing that filled so many family moments. She was also adored by her beloved dog, Freckles, a cherished companion, loyal shadow, and best friend. As her nephew recently said, “She was a true southern belle with a big Buffalo heart.” She will be missed more than words can say. We find comfort in knowing the love she gave so freely lives on — in her children, grandchildren, extended family and friends, and in every small act of care we show to others. In lieu of flowers, please perform an act of kindness in her memory. Friends and family may visit Saturday, February 28th, from 1–3 p.m. at Cannan Funeral Home Inc., 3155 Orchard Park Rd., with a prayer service immediately following.
