Obituary of Anne L. Marotta

Please share a memory of Anne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Anne Marotta passed away peacefully at the Cleveland Clinic on August 23, 2023 after receiving a double lung transplant in January of 2023. Anne's determination, courage and positive attitude was beyond description in her attempt to recover from her surgery. Anne was born on July 30th 1952 to the late Lewis Meacham and Josephine Bonadonna of Warsaw, NY. She graduated from Warsaw Central School District in 1970 and later from SUNY Geneseo where she was on the Dean's list and was also a Resident Assistant. Her undergraduate studies included studying French in both France and Switzerland. She accepted a position as a French Teacher at Geneseo Central School in 1973. Anne later became the Foreign Language Department Chairperson at Geneseo Central and was a tireless advocate for maintaining a Foreign Language program in both French and Spanish at the School District. Her advanced French Program at Geneseo rivaled those of much larger school districts. Anne was an extremely organized, detailed and accomplished teacher. She formed a Travel Club at Geneseo Central and chaperoned student trips to Quebec, France and Spain along with organizing exchange programs with students from France and Spain. In addition, Anne was a mentor assigned to new teachers at Geneseo Central. Anne left Geneseo Central School to pursue a career as a school administrator. She received her Administrative Degree from SUNY Brockport. Her first administrative position was as a Middle School Principal at Letchworth Central School District. This was followed by a Middle School Principal position at Iroquois Central School which required a move from Geneseo, NY to Orchard Park, NY. Anne finished her 35 year Career in Education as a Curriculum Coordinator and acting Superintendent at the Ken-Ton School District. Anne was a cancer survivor who loved to travel. After retiring, Anne and her husband Frank traveled extensively. Anne's detailed planning and legendary checklists insured that every possible item was packed for even the shortest vacation. Trips to the Caribbean, the American Southwest, Cruises to Alaska, The Panama Canal and Europe were memorable. The Rocky Mountaineer train trip through British Columbia and a trip to Peru topped her list. A major accomplishment for Anne was being able to walk to the top of Machu Picchu in Peru with its extremely high elevation. Anne made many friends while in Orchard Park through Yoga classes, Tai Chi classes and her school administrative positions. These new friends were added to her list of friends in Geneseo as well as her lifelong friends from Warsaw. Additional friends were added to Anne's list through people she met on trips. Birthdays and Anniversaries of friends and relatives were acknowledged with a phone call or a Jacquie Lawson Card. At home Anne's title became “CBO” of the house (Cook, Baker, Organizer). She loved watching The Food Network and trying new recipes with her own take on them. Anne is survived by her beloved husband of 48 years and cherished friend for 50 years, Frank Marotta. Her surviving family includes a brother Michael Meacham (Teena) of Amherst, New York, sister Kathleen Meacham (Ken) of Sterling, Virginia, two brothers-in-law, Pat Marotta (Helen) of Smyrna, Delaware, John Marotta of Chicago, Illinois and two special nephews Michael Marotta (Saudi Arabia) and Ray Marotta (Jamie) of Richmond, Virginia. To say that Anne will be missed is an understatement. Friends to Anne became Best Friends. Anne was bright, engaging, sincere and a joy to be around. She loved family, loved people, loved to travel and loved to relax at home. We will all miss her wonderful smile and positive outlook on life. No one will miss her more than her husband Frank. A separate Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held in Geneseo, NY at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Breathe Easy Group of Rochester, c/o University of Rochester Medical School, 415 Elmwood Avenue, Rochester, NY 14642.
