Beloved wife to the late Dr. Daniel F. Dempsey, the love of her life. Dear mother of Susan (Kurt Maute) Dempsey, Patrick (Christy) Dempsey and Kate (David) Dempsey-Newell. Loving grandmother of Natalie and Nicholas Textores, Alex (Jesus) Almendarez, Colton (Jennifer) and Daniel Dempsey, Tanner and Sebastian Newell. Sister of the late Marvin (late Marty) Kelly. Mother-in-law of the late Tammie Dempsey. Loving aunt to 13 nieces and nephews and devoted friend to many. Friends and family may call on Tuesday July 16th from 4-7PM at the JAMES W. CANNAN FUNERAL HOME, INC., 3155 Orchard Park Road in Orchard Park. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday July 17th at 10:00 AM at the Nativity of Our Lord Church in Orchard Park (please assemble at church). The interment will follow the Mass at the Nativity Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Mt. Mercy Academy. She and her husband Dan raised their three children in the house they both built by hand in Orchard Park. Joan was a registered nurse who worked at Mercy Hospital and Ellicott Elementary in Orchard Park. Joan also taught nursing at Trocaire College. In retirement, Joan volunteered her time at Hospice Buffalo; Father Baker Manor, praying the rosary with residents; Shea’s Performing Arts Center as an usher; and the Architectural Awareness Project for Buffalo as a tour guide of her beloved city. In addition, Joan was a 28-year participant in the Women’s Health Initiative, a landmark, long-term national health study funded by the National Institutes of Health.
