Christen, we are so sorry to hear about the loss of your dad, Steve. My family has gotten to know him over the past 15 years through the Sabres as Steve was our regular usher in section 326 at he Sabres games. My son Ryan, who is now 13, started coming to the Sabres games with us when he was 9 months old and has gotten to know Steve also. I can still remember the good times that we use to have during the last Sabres playoff run when Steve would hold up his small Vanek Jersey when he would score or when he would turn around to point to us after every Sabres goal. Through the years our friendship grew and going to game was just as much talking to your dad before and during the intermissions than watching the Sabres games. He was always interested in sports my son was playing and asking how my wife and other kids were doing. Your dad was a great guy and has been surely missed by all of us in section 326. May God Bless you and your family and you are in our prayers. Mike, Kim, Ryan, Avery and Kailyn Smith

Dear Christen and Rick: I am deeply sadden by the loss of our beloved Steve. I have known him since our days playing MUNY hardball for Kicks and Eddies. I was also very fortunate to coach basketball with him at Lackawanna High School where he was Bill Bilowus student teacher. Steve is one of the finest, caring and fun loving individuals I have had the honor to know. Bill Bilowus also asked me to convey his condolences. Steve and his family are in our thoughts and prayers. May God Bless you all and may perpetual light shine on you.

Steve showed kindness and compassion. I will never forget how he allowed my son and I to sit in a box seat at a Bison game. I was living in Detroit and had not been back since Luke Easter days.Wow. What an experience that will never be forgotten

I had the distinct pleasure to get work with Steve many days as he subbed for my fellow PE teachers in Buffalo and at the Sabres. He made my life richer by his smile, kindness, and ability to tell great stories. Always a caring individual who instinctively helped others. I will think of him often and wish him peace after his courageous fight.

A man who was loved and admired by so many. Steve touched so many lives. I am blessed that he welcomed me into his family and hope to believe that I am a better person just for knowing him and learning from his example of kindness. He always gave of himself freely to others without question or the need for praise or acknowledgment. He never asked for or expected anything in return. I love you Steve and I will miss you, as will so many, but I find comfort in knowing that you will suffer no more and you have gone home to be with God and he has a paradise waiting for you.

My wife and I had the pleasure of knowing this great man. I worked with Steve back in the 80s at Attica , enjoyed his company at Sabres games , and had the pleasure of golfing with him at Springville the past 8 years. He will be missed by many , may he rest comfortably in heaven.

Dear Christen and family,
I’m so sorry to hear of Steve’s passing. I enjoyed taking care of him at the Jonah Center as we always had great conversations. We definitely bonded over the Red Sox...I’m sure he’ll be sending blessing for them to win the World Series! I’m thinking of you and sending love.

Steve, sure going to miss you. Our daily conversations about the Red Sox, our golf game and life in general. You are one of my closest & best friends. I've learned a lot from you over the years, How to help others, how to enjoy life, how to handle the tough times with out complaining to any one about it. I found out that you are by far the toughest man I have ever met. The one thing that will always stick out to me, was the day you came over to Hamburg
golf course, you couldn't golf because you were to sick. You were standing on the 10th tee box overlooking the back 9 and you said to me I wish this moment would last for ever. Hopefully that moment will be with in heaven. Steve I love you like a brother, will miss more than I can put into words. The selfish me wish's you were still here, but the unselfish me is happy that you are not suffering any more. I will still be thinking of you every day and just checking on you to make sure your ok.
