My sincere condolences to Donna and the family.
My father, the late Terry Halloran, held few friends in such high regard as Mr. McCarthy; I know he was a great friend. As a kid, I always looked forward to being the one to answer the phone for his frequent Saturday afternoon calls (probably just after the Notre Dame game). Mr. McCarthy always called me James (rather than Jimmy) and it made me feel larger than life, which really is a good way of describing Mr. McCarthy himself.
I will miss him in the same way I miss my dad; they come from a place where friends are family and family are friends. I will miss the stories and I will miss the laughter. In my sister Megan's words "he was one of a kind." I think a cheers is in order for this great man and I know I will do so on some Saturday to come.
Sláinte!
With love and a heavy heart,
Jim Halloran
