Obituary of Paul E. Weitz

Please share a memory of Paul to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Of Orchard Park, NY, passed away peacefully at home on May 31, 2023, at the age of 87, surrounded by his loving family. Dearly loved husband of 57 years to Carol L. (nee Moroney); devoted father of Carolyn O’Shei (Christopher) and James Weitz (Bethany); dedicated grandfather of Michael and Matthew Bosley, and Jonathan and Daniel Weitz. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Paul was a graduate of Kensington High School in Buffalo, and Buffalo State College. A Navy veteran and a US Air Force Reserves veteran, among his citations was an award of The Meritorious Service Medal for his commitment to his unit’s mission, and successful execution. Paul had a 34 year career in the Buffalo Fire Department and retired in 1995 as Division Chief. Paul was a devout golfer, a Snow Bird to Florida for many years, a whip-smart and hilarious jokester, an avid cryptogram solver, and a wonderful human being. He will be missed and never forgotten by anyone who was fortunate enough to know him. The family will be present on Monday, June 19 from 3 until 6 p.m. at the JAMES W. CANNAN FUNERAL HOME INC., 3155 Orchard Park Road, Orchard Park, NY 14127. A brief Buffalo Fire Department and US Air Force Honors Presentation will follow at 6PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Paul’s memory to the E. M. Cotter Conservancy (the oldest active fireboat in the world, designated a National Historic Landmark in 1996), or a charity of your choice.
