"Big John" was my youngest son's Godfather and one of my dearest friends! In the late 70's, I was running a funding program to employ kids to do conservation work and I gave a grant to the city of Buffalo. I came out to see how the program was running and didn't like what I saw. I had the crew chief bring me into the "Boss" where I pointed out all the problems and he countered! We yelled and screamed at each other for an hour, fingers pointing and threats made! We finally came to a tenuous agreement . As I was packing up to leave, John said "You like Guinness - there's a place nearby. That was the beginning of a very long and close friendship between two big, pigheaded Irishmen. We were lucky to see each other in October. Condolences to Debbie and the rest of John's family. I will forever miss him!

I remember John well while he was on the school board. He always spoke up for what he felt was right and worked with the other members to move the agenda forward. He will be missed. Also had a great sense of humor.

John was elected to the Buffalo School Board shortly after I had left serving on the Board so unfortunately I never had the chance to serve on the Board with John. However our paths crossed many times in public life and I always enjoyed talking with John. He was one of the very good ones- a true dedicated public servant and champion of our youth. Sincere condolences to the Doyle family- especially Sue. Robb & Rosie Flowers
