"Jerry Good Guy." Never was a more accurate nickname ascribed to a more worthy individual.
Gerald J. Whalen was a "good guy." In growing up with his son, Jerry, I got to know and appreciate his commitment to public service (as our councilman), the example he set as a father, the entertaining stories he told about Whipper, and the smiling, big-hearted, engaging personality he shared with everyone he met.
So now, as the Hon. Gerald J. Whalen enters the pearly gates, I'm pretty sure St. Peter will direct his soul to the area of heaven reserved for the "good guys." (And I'm guessing it will have a great neighborhood tavern, as well).
